Mekedatu and Sangama which is around 100 Kms from Bangalore is an ideal day trip from Bangalore. At Mekedatu, river Cauvery is so narrow that a goat can leal and cross over. Mekedatu literally means “Goat’s leap” - It is a gorge thru which river cauvery flows. Sangama is the confluence of rivers Arkavathy and Cauvery.
Bangalore to Mekedatu:
Take the Kanakapura road from Bangalore and after you reach Kanakapura, watch out for the board indicating a left turn to Sangama at the second circle in Kanakapura town.This will lead you to Sathanur and MekedatuBangalore to Mekedatu Road Map
Along the road to Sangama from Kanakapura, you can visit Chunchi falls by taking a small detour. Watch out for the yellow tourism boards.
To reach Mekedatu, the gorge, you will have to park your vehicles at Sangam and take a coracle ride to the other side of the river. There are rickety mini buses which takes you to Makedatu.
