Kasauli & Baikunt Resorts - Great weekend from Delhi
Reviewed by saurav, 2007-12-19

Two things went well in our latest Himachal weekend trip – The place we selected and the resort we stayed. We avoided the normal Shimla and instead selected little known Kasauli. Kasauli is a delightful hillstation and easily driveable from Chandigarh. From Chandigarh take the Shimla highway to a small town Dharampur. From there take a turn to Kasauli and drive for another 15 Kms (Total around 60 Kms from Chandigarh).
Good thing about Kasauli is that there are no mad crowds but excellent sceneries and walkways. One of the walkways will lead you Kasauli Club which is more than 100 years old and has the stamp of raj. If you know somebody in army or some other VIP, try getting permission to stay at Kasauli club. Apart from the numerous walks in Kasauli, I would suggest a walk of 6 kms to Sanawar, where you will see the famous Lawrence school and also a small perennial waterfall near the Nehra temple.
As for staying option is concerned, You cannot go wrong staying at Baikunt resort at Kasauli. Most rooms have balcony and view from there is excellent especially in the mornings. In the evening you can spend endless hours at the resort lawn which they use to serve dinner too. If you are the one who looks for so called amenities in a resort – the usual suspects – pool table, kids play room etc are there.
Coming to the food at Baikunt resort, I felt that it was not all that great. If your reservation does not include dinner, I would suggest take your car and drive to famous Giani da dhaba and try their chicken dishes.
All in all, Kasauli is a great place. I am told that in month of June – July it can get crowded as they celebrate what is called Kasauli week.

Ideal romantic getaway

Wow! what a place ideal for honeymoon or anniversary. The views are excellent and so romantic. It is a nice hotel and Mr. Jolly, the man in charge is a friendly sort of a guy.
What surprised me is that there is water shortage at Himalayas!
