Cheating! Reviewed by sita, 2007-08-01 I reached Goa and since Calangute is the most popular one, wet straight to GTDC calangute. They told me rooms were available only at the annexe. I checked the rooms and it was in no shape for us to stay. Plasters were peeling, the room was damp, the hotel was stinking and bathrooms.... I came out and was told cheaper and better rooms are available at Baga beach which is just 2 Kms away. That is true. Better rooms are available at Baga. Calangute beach in itself is just a hype. It was not the best beach - Guards are everywhere, no privacy and crowds follow you like leeches. Trust me, I was wearing Indian decent dress and yet crowd was so unruly making obscene remarks in Hindi.One guy even had the nerve to take a snap of me as I was standing admiring the sea! Guards do not make any effort to control their rowdy behaviour. Extremely bad experience at Calangute Beach. My suggestion - Avoid Calangute Beach and GTDC Calangute
