I went to Puducheery for a experience that will be different from what I am used to the city. The mistake I made was to book in Ananda Inn which is more of a business hotel. I have no complaints about this hotel. However, if you are on a weekend or on a vacation, I would suggest try some of the heritage accommodation available for the same tariff.
