I first stayed in the hotel in 1979, and have returned there many times since. It is a family run business that completely understands the need of the western budget traveller.
5 star it isn't, but it more than makes up for that with the fact that the people who run it have hearts of gold. They are great to ask for advice and have an excellent undwerstanding of how the Western mind works.
The hotel is run by two brothers, Shyam and Somnath Vij. It has two restaurants and around 70 rooms. It is extremely popular with Western travellers, and is a great place to meet up with other traveller's and socialise.
One of the good things about the hotel is the fact that it is positioned just off the Main Bazaar of Pahar Ganj, so it is quiet but extremely convenient for all the amenities.
If you are traveling in India and staying in Delhi and need somewhere cheap and friendly, I can go no further than to recommend the Navrang.
