Nani’s & Rani’s is situated at the confluence of the Baga River - Goa and the Arabian Sea with a deeply forested Mountain behind. Balcao is a restaurant cum Boutique hotel run by Nani’s & Rani’s in an Old Portuguese Mansion built by benevolent Batkar (Landlord) Joao Luis D’souza in the year 1928. Balcao specializes in Goan and Continental cuisine. The food served at Balcao is home cooked by the inmates of the house using traditional family recipes thus creating a wonderful blend of boutique style living with a homely atmosphere.
 

Attached to this Mansion is an interesting Legend of the Cross that was found in the Baga River. Legend has it that even 12 men could not lift the Cross until Joao Luis D’souza promised to erect an alter and venerate the Cross. The Cross suddenly lightened and was lifted by 2 men.

Balcao also sports a period style Portuguese room with genuine antique furnishing. The outlined cottage of Nani’s & Rani’s was converted into semi-luxury rooms with all modern amenities such as attached bathroom and toilet with 24 hours hot water facility, television, intercom, inverter, etc. while still retaining Old Portuguese charm and flavour.
