Though Hampi is an important tourist destination of Karnataka, there are not many regular hotels at Hampi - Accommodation at Hampi is more in the form of guest houses. Those seeking to stay at a regular hotel should base themselves at Hospet, 13 Kms away from Hampi. From Hospet, one can visit Hampi by engaging an autorickshaw or a taxi. Even food wise, it makes sense to stay at Hospet as there are better restaurants at Hospet than at Hampi.

Accommodation at proper Hampi village is mainly restricted to many guest houses in the bazaar area. The only regular hotel at Hampi, (near the ruins), is the one run by the Karnataka Government.

Hampi attracts many backpacker tourists from Goa. Virupapurgadda (Viru), across Tungabadra river, has many guest houses that cater to these tourists. Non-vegetarian dishes and alcoholic drinks are served at the guesthouses based at Viru, while the Hampi based guesthouses avoid the same.
