Periyar Tiger Reserve, Thekkady

Periyar Tiger Reserve at Thekkady is one of the oldest and arguably,the most efficiently managed tiger reserve. Periyar Tiger Reserve organizes many eco-tourism activities. These activities are conducted by local people including those who once made a living by illegal operations in the forests. Today, owing to tourism, they can earn substantial revenue without undertaking any activities that will hamper the flora and fauna of the park.

Some Interesting activities at Periyar Tiger Reserve, Thekkady

• Nature Walk: The programme is offered between 7.00 am. And 10.30 am. And between 2.00 pm. and 3.00 pm. and lasts for about 3 hours. Trained tribal guide will accompany the tourist
• Periyar Tiger Trail: The trek is over two or three days and covers 25 Kms. First day’s trek starts at 9 am and ends by noon in the second or third day. Armed forest guards with good communication equipments accompany trekking groups
• Border Hike: Conservation oriented trek starts at 8 o’ clock in the morning and ends in the evening.
>Bamboo Rafting: Hiking and rafting programme through the forest tracts, Starts at 8 AM and ends by 5 PM
• Night Jungle Patrol: Tourists can accompany forest gaurds dring patrol and explore the nocturnal jungle life
• Bullock Cart Discoveries: Bullock cart ride thru' the farmlands of villages near the park.
