MTDC Malshej Ghat (Flamingo Resort)

MTDC Malshej Ghat has the best location in whole of Malshej Ghat. It overlooks the valley and the resort is almost always covered in mist during monsoons. From the cottages, one can view the Harischandragad peak if the skies are clear. There are plenty of water falls near the resort and some not so popular ones which the staff at the resort will inform you - Of course, you need to ask them. It is these attractions, that enticed one to stay at Malshej Ghat and MTDC offers all of it.
Cottages offer the best accommodation. Rooms and dorms are just about okay. If you are going to Malshej Ghat with your family, I would suggest you to book the cottage at MTDC Flamingos.
Service levels are so poor that it is better that you arrive with the idea that you are staying at one of the Government run budget hotels. I have given 5 star rating despite the service standards as my expectation on this front was minimal. Let me give you an example, even if the rooms are empty and you have reached Malshej Ghat by 11 AM, the staff will not let you in the room till is around 1 PM - don't ask me why?
Canteen serves dishes that are best eaten to survive and not cherish. There is a limited menu on offer.
In many ways, it is a case of missed opportunities for MTDC. If this was to be run by Jungle Lodges (of Karnataka) there would have been a guided tour to watch the flamingos - but at MTDC, there is no body knowledgeable to take you around or guide you to the right place to watch the flamingos.
You should go to Malshej because the place is so lovely. Go with minimal expectation from the resort and you will enjoy your weekend. Important: Go to MTDC Flamingos only during Monsoons. During other months, Malshej is just any other place - it gets magical only during monsoons
