Hotel Information

From the Website

Nestled along river Cauvery is the Bheemeshwari Fishing Camp, world-renowned as home to the great ‘Mahseer’ - the finest & the largest tropical sporting fish known to man. Fishing is done during the morning, which lasts from first light until midday and then again from 4 o'clock until nightfall. Also, only a maximum of 10 rods are allowed to be in the water during a single session.

The Camp, overlooking the River Cauvery consists of just eight luxurious ethnic log-huts on stilts, blending beautifully with the jungle behind. On the riverbank are also eight well-furnished tented cottages (twin-bedded with attached bathrooms) for those who prefer a more closer-to-nature experience.

My penchant for wildlife is quite well known amongst my friends. In my last trip to Bangalore (I am from Bangalore but for last 18 years residing at Mumbai), I stayed with my old 'wingie' from BITS and for weekend we went to Bheemeshwari run by Jungle Lodges.
I have heard a lot about Jungle Lodges and have been to their Kabini resort. The experience at Kabini was excellent and hence my expectation at Bheemeshwari was also sky-high.Bheemeshwari jungle lodges lived upto my expectations and was one of the most wonderful weekend break I had in a long time.
The resort is quite close to Bangalore at 100 Kms and roads till the gate of the resort is excellent. JLR manager informed me that long back, the approach roads used to be horrible and somehow that image is stuck. I want to reassure all readers that road quality now is excellent. On the way, you will come across Mutati Maruti temple. This is an important temple, I remember as a kid, I used to listen to Kannada song on Mutati Maruti sung by Dr. Raj Kumar.
Jungle Lodges Bheemeshwari is in a serene location on banks of river Cauvery. The log huts at the resort overlook the river with Hammock for every log hut. The programme includes a safari and importantly the coracle rides, amateur fishing which are the highlights of Jungle Lodges Bheemeshwari.

Bheemeshwari is a haven for professional anglers. The largest freshwater game fish in the world is the mahseer and Bhmmeshwari is a popular spot to "catch" Mahseer. Jungle lodges as part of conservation of Mahseer drop nearly five thousand kilos of ragi into the river to ensure that Mahseer stays around the resort. This is done not for tourist's benefit but as a conservation measure.

Best Angling season is from mid-November to March. Coracles, gillies and ragi bait are provided by the Jungle Lodges. Anglers have to obtain the fishing license. Professional anglers need to contact Jungle Lodges in advance to have a whale of time - or should it be mahseer of time
