For those staying in Western suburbs of Andheri, Malad and Borivili, Northern beaches of Maharashtra are God- sent. Bordi which is 180 Km north of Mumbai is an excellent getaway.
Bordi is a tiny little village with little to speak of except its long beach: all of 17 kms long! Beach at Bordi offers what most beaches near Mumbai have forgotten – calm, quiet and pleasant environment. It is not just the length that makes the beaches attractive – it’s the sceneries too. Bordi beaches have beautiful scenery with its backdrop of orchards featuring various fruits, notably chikoos. In fact, the entire area is famous for its Chikoo and other fruit orchards. The sea at Bordi is calm and that is true of most northern beaches. The terrain is flat and barely slopes away. So, the sea is almost a kilometer away during low tide. The walk to the sea is quite interesting as you can admire the several interesting patterns/trails made by the sea creatures. The sea at Bordi is relatively safer and children can have frolicking time in the knee deep waters. Reaching there Take the well maintained national highway 8 to Dhanu. The fun begins after you reach Dhanu, the 20 km ride from Dahanu to Gholvad-Bordi is a dream! Good roads with the beach front just a few meters away to your left and casuarinas and coconut groves to your right! You rarely lose sight of the beach throughout this stretch! You can view the route map here
