Most Mumbaites excel in finding find trivial excuses to get out of town on the weekend. If you are one of them – look no further, I have found a perfect excuse for you. It is called Karpe Wadi - Agro Tourism and it is near Alibaug (Just 9 Kms from Alibag)
It is a little resort
(Specifically, a bed & breakfast approved by MTDC) located at
Nagaon beach near Alibag. What makes this place special is that it has
it all – Coconut groves, access to an almost private beach
and a well maintained farm. The host is extremely hospitable and can
teach a thing or two about agro tourism and bio friendly practices (If
you are interested – I have always managed to steer the topic
from all those complicated sounding topics).

It is this resort that makes
Nagoan an excellent weekend getaway. By itself, there is nothing
spectacular about Nagoan beach. Sands are not white (Unlike the nearby
Kashid beach).Just like Alibaug beach, the main Nagoan beach
gets crowded on week ends and you can see occasional drunken brawl.
What made me write this weekend idea is the sheer tranquil and bliss
that I experience every time I go to Karpe Wadi.
To start with, the
garden at Karpe resort is very soothing. The rooms are eco
–friendly (the host keeps reminding – the
furnishings and even wall paintings have been done in a manner that
minimizes hazard to the environment). The tall coconut palms provide
excellent cover of shade to the room and keep it cool. The hammocks in
front of the room are inviting to just laze around. The beach is just
200 meters away. This is the more serene and secluded part of the
beach.The host serves bio –friendly vegetarian breakfast and
lunch. Now, bio friendly lunch is not something, one should get worried
about. It just means that vegetables used have been grown in farm
without use of any pesticide. Tariff per person is Rs. 750/-
Honestly, It is one of the few places close to Mumbai, where one can enjoy the sunset in peace with one’s family. I get pretty upset with the rowdy behaviour often seen in Alibaug beached and hence this is refreshing. guess, if I praise the resort an inch more, readers might feel it is a sales pitch and so let me leave it to the readers to experience the place.
Reaching
Nagoan:
To reach Nagoan, take your car – It is nearly 120 km south of
Mumbai. Drive to Panvel and then follow the Goa highway (NH17). You
will reach the town of Pen and then a road junction called Vadkhal
Naka. Goa road turns to left, but you will have to take the state
highway leading to Alibaug. As you come closer to Alibaug, you will
find a small board showing the way to Murud. Take this Alibaug - Murud
highway till you reach Akshi beach identified by a statue of Chatrapati
Shivaji.. Turn to your right and the road will wind its way to Nagoan
beach.
As you reach Nagoan beach, you will see a ground twice that of any International football ground.
To reach Karpe Wadi resort, you have to drive thru the ground. If my instructions are not clear then call your host.– he will direct you. Better still, you can get the directions from Panvel here - Map from Mumbai ti Alibaug.
