Matheran - A perfect weekend getaway

Matheran literally means "Forest on Top". At Matheran, you can go back in time and experience unpolluted fresh air as motor vehicles are banned within Matheran township. All Vehicles have to be parked at Dasturi Naka on the outskirts of the hillstation

Reaching Matheran

Matheran Toy Train:

The most interesting and enjoyable way to reach Matheran is to take the toy train from Neral (Mumbai local trains to Karjat stop at Neral)  The toy train chugs slowly and takes 2 hours to reach  as it has to stop often to cool the engine.

Toy train does not operate during Monsoons. Matheran train booking can be made at IRCTC website of Indian Railways.
