The KTDC package plans to bring various stakeholders – Super specialty hospitals, tour operators, resort owners and multiple state agencies to the same table.

Kerala does definitely have an edge in medical tourism. The treatment cost for many ailments including cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, eye surgery and cosmetic surgery are a fraction of what it costs in more advanced markets like USA, UK and Gulf. Medical infrastructure,qualifications and competence of doctors, efficiency of paramedics are on par with the world.

The other advantage is the well developed tourism infrastructure at Kerala. Tourist hot spots in Kerala like Munnar, famed backwaters and houseboats, Thekkady , beaches of Kovalam, Varkala and Poovar have highly developed tourism infrastructure. Tariffs of resorts are moderate when compared to other equally attractive tourist destinations in other parts of the world. Patients tend to visit these places for relaxation and recuperation post their surgery.

Other key segment targeted is that of wellness. Ayurvedic Spa are synonymous with Kerala and these Spas offer both therapeutic massages and also treatment aimed at lifestyle betterment like stress relieving treatments and weight loss programs. These treatments require patients to stay for a week or more and are often combined with tour to key tourist destinations
