If one has to find a symbol for religious harmony, then the Dargha in Nagore of Meeran Sahib Abdul Qadir Shahul Hamid Badshah(the Lord of Andavar) will easily fit the bill. Believers across faith visit the Dargah as it is noted for its healing power. At the time of tsumani, the management of dargah provided relief and shelter to scores of people and many of them who were Hindus. The building itself is a happy synthesis of Islamic and Hindu influences.
Dargah is spread over 5 acre campus with four entrances. The building sports beautiful golden dome, arches and doors that are covered in embossed silver and gold. The golden dome building houses three tombs in different chambers where mortal remains of Meeran Sahib, his son Syed Mohammed Yusuf and his daughter-in-law Saeeda Sultana Biwi are buried.<> The general belief is that Shevappa Nayaka, a local chieftain, gave the land for the building to the saint himself for curing his son. The saint was popular for his miraculous powers (Karamat) in healing people and the legend continues even today with thousands across faith thronging to the Dargah. The nearby Vanjur Shrine is the place where Meeran Sahib meditation for 40 days inside an underground cave.
The main festival at Nagore Dargah is the 'Kandhuri Urs' which falls in the lunar month of Jumada al-Thani. During the Urs, thousands from far and wide reach Nagore for ‘Ziyarat’. Contribution by Abdul Razzak
